Intellectual Dishonesty part 5: The ugly head of deception

Cancer begins undetected within the body. It remains discreet while it starts to corrupt the cells around it. Slowly but surely the body begins to recognize this attack and begins to prepare its defence. By now, the cancer has come out in the open with an army of diseased cells.

Corruption does not begin and manifest itself from the start, it hides, captures then reveals its truth. Many of the callers and speakers begin in the same way. They hide their innovations, or they hide their corruptions and evil intents and when they’ve captured the hearts of the general people, they beging to preach their true belief.

This is seen very much so in many of the callers today. They begin their corrupted Da’wah by talking about matters which soften the hearts of the people and they allow the people to get attached to them before they start truly calling to what they originally intended. It’s hard to see this ugly deceit behind a smiling face, but rest assured these tactics were used by many a people… and it was successful.

For example, you may have a person who begins his career as a speaker by talking about and teaching the life of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم. Giving very non-controversial statements, many young Muslims start to get attracted to these types of talks. In general, these talks are not common in the English language. So anyone who speaks about them will receive listeners. People want to hear these topics but they do not have the ability to listen to “Seerat ar-Rasool Qabla Ba’tha” (Life of the Messenger before Messengership) of Shaykh ‘Abdul Azeez Aal ash-Shaykh or “Hijrah ar-Rasool” of Shaykh Muhammad bin ‘Aqeel.  So all it takes is a swindler to waltz in the scene and speak from what he reads from books or learns from early Islaamic education in high-school and he quickly takes the hearts of the people.

After hundreds of people become attached to him, he slowly inserts his views into his lectures. The average person will not be able to detect these non-challant blunders because they just dont have knowledge (which is why they are listening to him in the first place). Then as the virus spreads, the swindler of the da’wah comes out with his views. His lectures become more centered to a particular topic. People who were confused now become decisive. People who follow the flock now become a part of the flock. People who are ignorant remain ignorant but think they have knowledge.

So now a person who started off as a nobody becomes a super star, except that he’s called “Shaykh” or “Imaam” but he’s really a deceptive swindler. His knowledge may not be more than the Imaam at the local Masjid, but in the eyes of the people he is a ‘Aalim.

And what of the ‘Ulemaa? The real scholars. The ones who are firm in their knowledge. The ones who Allaah has blessed and guided. The ones who know the Truth from the Falsehood. They are downgraded and labeled with whatever the swindler whispered into the hearts of the people. So now these terms become popular amongst the general people. So they refer to the Scholars of Islaam as “Palace Scholars” or “Scholars for Dollars” or “Greenzone Scholars” or “the promoters of the Fiqh of Humiliation” and the likes of these evil ascriptions. These people are blinded by their own emotions and hate that their venomous attacks reach the most knowledgeable people of Islaam. All this from the efforts of a swindler who cheats the people and considers himself a ‘Aalim whislt he is ignorant and nothing more than that. They raise themselves up so much that if one of them were to be imprisoned, he and his followers compare his situation to the imprisonment of Shaykh ul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah.

I have often been challenged by these people to debate. I respond asking them why the would want to debate with a layman like myself as opposed to going to the people whom they think they have more knowledge than. I always invite them to come speak with the scholars and the answer is always the same. They say they’ll do it but they never do. One person said that he could easily refute one of the books which Shaykh Saaleh bin Fawzaan al-Fawzaan, a major scholar, wrote over 20 years ago. So I asked him if he would like to call the Shaykh up that weekened and refute him and he said

“uhh I’m busy this weekend, I have exams”

So I asked him when he’s free, we’d arrange it for him and his response was: “Well I’m going to be busy for the next few weeks” (apparently not busy enough to want to argue with me).  So I asked him whether he could in the summer and he said yes. That summer he happened to be in Riyadh and I reminded him to visit the Shaykh and we’d verify whether he went or not. Rest assured, he never visited the Shaykh.

One character who promoted the views of the Khawaarij threatened to kill us. It’s not a surprise for us. Many of these people are like that, and many of these callers promote that ideology. They cannot debate the scholars because they know they will lose. Many of them have tried and failed. Look at the utter humiliation of the callers of the Khawaarij when they stood up to Shaykh Muhammad Naasir-ud-Deen al Albaanee. After they were humiliated by the Shaykh, they spread about him that he had Irjaa’. Then look at what happened with those same people who were put in their places by Shaykh ‘Abdul-Azeez bin ‘Abdillaah bin Baaz. They spread around that he was a palace scholar and a “Scholar for Dollars” even though the Shaykh wore the simplest of clothes and had a Mud House. They said the same about Shaykh Mubqil bin Haadee al-Waadi’ee even though he used to eat stale bread dipped in water. But they get worse, especially the callers to destruction. Look how they reacted when faced with the powerful statements of Shaykh Muhammad Amaan al-Jaamee! They rioted in the Masjid. They fought people while the Iqaamah was being called. Look how they reacted to Shaykh Saaleh as Suhaymee, an old blind man! They beat him severely. They used to beat these old Shaykhs when they couldnt refute them. These are the same people who say that they are merciful to the Muslims!! Hospitalizing an old man is mercy to them.

My next post will deal with some of the intellectual dishonest tactics applied by these crooks.

  1. Assalaamu’alaikum, masha Allah akh, very well explained. You hit the nail on the head.

  2. As salamu ‘alaykum. That’s a good post. JazaakAllah khayr akhi. Br. Nabeel Chowgle – a student of the Kuwaiti Salafi Scholars like Shaykhs Tariq as-Subay’ee, Falaah Ismaeel, Muhammad al-Anjari and others mentioned these incidents regardings Shaykh al-Jamee and Shaykh as-Suhaymee and said that Ahlul Bid’ah from old always use violence against Ahlus Sunnah. But Ahlus Sunnah never take the law in their own hands and never resort to violence except by way of the Ruler/Authority punishing the Ahlul Bid’ah.
